nr1 is a magazine, and a website. Soon it will be a soft drink, a range of poseable action figures and a long-haul holiday destination, but we're taking it pretty easy these days, after the accident and everything.

nr1 was founded when we realised there isn't much in the way of local outlets for Norwich's creative writers. There's your Outlines, and your freebie what-have-you's which tell you what's on where, and where you can get pissed on the cheap, and those are more than useful for that reason alone, but we wanted to create something that you could pick off the bar, sit down with, be entertained by and maybe start a kind of open relationship with.  It's fine if you see other magazines on the side.  We're cool with that.

Some of nr1 is funny, some of it is reflective, some of it is just plain dumb, but the idea is you can read it while waiting for your mate (who's always late and never buys the first round) to get to the pub. The website's an extension of that. Just substitute "mate" for "manager," "buys the first round" for "gives you any praise for slogging your guts out" and "get to the pub" for "take you into a small room and give you a final warning for abusing the company Internet access," and you'll see how right we are.

Who Do I Blame For All This?

ImageMichael is everyone's favourite geek. He had a story on the BBC once. It was based on a story about urinating all over your trousers while slagging off Darren Huckerby to his face. He writes a lot and occasionally makes something good. Send him a chocolate orange and make a friend.

ImageWill is from Lawrence, Kansas. He got fed up with suburban, small city life and so he moved to Norwich. His eyes mist over if you show him a frying pan and a fire. Will's an actor, producer, director, performer, writer, musician and in his spare time he mops the lino.

ImageDan uses words to create an inner space where people can meet and hang out with their other selves, occasionally nodding or frowning or pulling a kind of weird face that nobody really understands.  He's off to Brazil soon, and we envy him even more.

ImageLeanne, the self-styled Larkman Laureate, recently moved in with her boyfriend Shaney. Her work has been described as 'awful', 'terrible', 'horrible' and 'moving'. She likes iambic pentameter, cadence, and brawling at bus stops.  She can watch Big Brother for up to thirty-eight hours without blinking.

Tim Bowness is a professional musician who is also responsible for A&R and site content at www.burningshed.com. With No-Man (his band with Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson), Tim has been signed to One Little Indian and Sony/Epic.

Australian-Italian  Lisa D'Onofrio is a  poet, performer and Creative Arts East's  Literature Development Officer. She is member of the writers/artists collective InPrint (www.inprintartsandpoetry.co.uk).

And as for you - well, if you want to get involved, mail us at  .  It could be a beautiful thing.
